In terms of where the story goes from here, a brand new trailer showed the return of Osiris, who confirmed that with the Undying Mind now defeated, time has sort of broken. The Cabal has used this to their advantage by attempting to change the outcome of the Red War, though an even bigger event has transpired due to time spiraling out of control. Saint-14, the legendary Titan who died battling the Vex, has reappeared and will be featured in the new story line as players work to rescue him....

The sandbox environment is also going to getting a major change next week thanks to the addition of new Timelost Weapons as rewards for completing Master Raids as well as various weapon tweaks which were originally going to be held back until Season 15. Shotguns and 120 RPM Hand Cannons are all getting some nerfs, though Bungie is tweaking most special weapons in some capacity. Bungie also announced major changes to Anarchy, the go to PvE grenade launcher exotic, in order to make it great at a few roles instead of being great at everything....

Bungie announced the event today on the company’s official site, where the Destiny 2 dev team laid out what players can expect. The Dawning will begin Tuesday, December 19, and run until Tuesday, January 9. Both the Tower and the Farm will be decorated for the occasion, with festive lights and fluffy, white snow. Guardians are encouraged to enjoy the changing weather by participating in snowball fights, a feature that was often requested during last year’s event....

Shortly after the debut of the trailer, Bungie’s Scott Taylor and Steve Cotton were on the YouTube E3 show with Geoff Keighley who asked the two developers if Cayde really is dead for good. Taylor responded jokingly at first: “He looks dead. He does not look good.” And then he said flat out, “He’s dead. He is dead.” Keighley expressed shock that they would kill such a big character in the Destiny universe, to which Taylor and Cotton both nodded and confirmed again that Cayde has been offed for good....

Redditor TheSpaghetti suggests in a post on r/destinythegame that Bungie separate the appearance of Ghost Shells from the perk system, and instead allow a Ghost’s perks to be chosen and hot-swapped at will by the player, with a system inspired by the Armor 2.0 system introduced into the game last year alongside the Shadowkeep expansion. Though the website is live, details surrounding the program continue to be razor thin. According to the website, players can start entering codes found on the tab of Destiny 2 branded Rockstar Energy cans on September 1. From there, players are rewarded with in-game loot in addition to a chance to win legendary prizes. Based on the individual cans, prizes include PlayStation 4 Pro systems along with Destiny 2 Collector’s Editions....

In addition to a whole wealth of new features and tweaks, Destiny 2 introduces mods to the mix. These mods lock into the slots on armor and weapons, giving them special buffs to utility. Some mods may increase reload speed, while another could increase handling. Like with the weapons themselves, these Destiny 2 mods come in different varieties, specifically rare and legendary options. As the names imply, rare mods are easy to acquire and slotted on tons of gear, while legendary mods are a lot more rare....

Bungie has slowly been bringing classic weapons back to Destiny 2, even surprising players by announcing that the fan favorite exotic rocket launcher Gjallarhorn is finally returning later this year as part of the Bungie 30th anniversary event. Last season not only saw the return of the Vault of Glass raid and its big boss man Atheon, but the popular fusion rifle known as Vex Mythoclast also made its return....

When Destiny 2 began having seasons, developer Bungie promised that gear that cycled out of the game would eventually make its way back in the future, but Bungie did not detail exactly how that would happen. Some of the gear from past seasons has been added to the general world drop loot pool, so it seemed possible that exotics would also join the exotic loot pool, dropping from any of the normal exotic loot sources....

Unfortunately for players, the Final Assault is the final piece to the Season of the Undying. While Bungie has yet to disclose any information on Season 9, the latest blog post from the developer revealed new insight into Solar subclass changes coming in a few weeks. Bungie is actively reworking or replacing under-performing skills from three of the lesser used trees including the Hunter’s Way of the Sharpshooter, the Warlock’s Attunement of Sky, and the Titan’s Code of the Devastator....

With season 18 on the horizon as well and bows have been weak for a few seasons now, there’s a possibility this archetype is also returning....

Before moving forward, it’s worth mentioning that this isn’t confirmed, but that there is a small amount of evidence that Destiny 2 is bringing back Gjallarhorn. It may not be in the same exact form, it could possibly be a troll, or it could be something that takes a lot of time to unlock fully. Yet if Gjallarhorn is returning in some form, that’s likely to excite many Destiny players, as Gjallarhorn is one of the most iconic Destiny weapons....

A number of players have found the bug and began investigating exactly how it affected the damage dealt to the boss, with one Destiny 2 player going by the name Saber posting the results in a video to YouTube. However, it would appear that a separate group of players who go by Team Doinya have been credited with actually finding the cause of the bug itself and why it seems to affect the raid boss’ damage calculations....

According to Bungie senior technical artist Nate Hawbaker, who recently spoke with Eurogamer’s Digital Foundry, Destiny 2 “will run in unlimited frame rate.” Hawbaker added, “By all means throw your hardware at it, we will render at that. There’s no limitations there.” He did, however, note that players will likely see their CPU bottleneck before reaching that unlimited benchmark, but the possibility to attempt it is there. Hawbaker’s comments support ones made earlier this year that indicated the PC version of the game would feature an uncapped frame rate and 4k support....

One of these cheat makers for Destiny 2, AimJunkies, has attempted to strike back at Bungie in a rather roundabout way. Namely, AimJunkies has issued subpoenas to Valve, PayPal, and Google in hopes of showing that its cheats do not infringe on Bungie’s intellectual properties, only for all of this to immediately be dismissed by the judge. The comic can be read here, one panel at a time as the story unfolds, with Part 2 focusing on the conflict between Osiris and the Speaker. Even before Destiny 2, the first game left clues about the tension between these two characters ultimately leading to the Speaker banishing Osiris from the Last City and the order of Guardians. That is exactly the story told in this second part. After the Guardians and the citizens of the City debate about Osiris’s research into the Vex and the growth of his cult, tensions rise to a fever pitch....

While today’s Destiny 2 update may have caused plenty of problems for players and Bungie needed to take the servers offline for emergency maintenance, some players were able to dig into the updated files and extract some new information. Within those files was a new dialogue line (or message board post) that tells players: “With the restoration of the Lighthouse complete, Trials of Osiris and more will return in Season of the Worthy....

In a new interview, Destiny 2’s PC lead David Shaw explained that Bungie has been working on the game’s post-launch content since before launch. This is a “fundamental thing” that it will “always” do in order to make its life easier. But despite these development plans, Shaw admitted that Bungie “can’t make enough that you guys won’t chew through it really quickly.” The developer does have a remedy for this, with Destiny 2’s Lost Sectors and Adventures being the solution....

One prop maker has made a fan-favorite weapon from Destiny 2, complete with an in-game function recreated with stunning practical effects. The weapon in question is Cayde-6’s famous Ace of Spades, which has been recreated with a “functional” Memento Mori effect that glows and smokes in a way that players will be all too familiar with.
