However, significant new details arrived later this week as Bungie’s weely blog post revealed tons of upcoming tweaks and changes, both in a midseason update as well as for the launch of Lightfall. This includes massive build crafting changes and a Loadout feature, the long requested removal of Blue Engrams, significant changes to the PvP side of the game, as well as new balancing updates to weapons, exotics, and abilities.

For now, the weekend merchant Xur has finally arrived back inside of Destiny 2 for another weekend visit. Follow this guide for his most current weekend location, news on his exotic cipher quest, as well as a review of all the exotic and legendary gear he’s brought for the weekend of January 20, 2023.

Where is Xur?

This weekend, players can track down Xur on Earth inside the Winding Cove of the European Dead Zone.

Fast travel to the Winding Cove zone and immediately head towards the back where the Fallen typically patrol. Climb the cliffs back here to find Xur standing on a ledge not too far from a crashed ship.

Class Armor and Exotic Cipher

Xur’s role continues to offer the usual weekly quests, exotics, and legendary gear. Not only are these quests required to purchase a second fated engram, but they’re necessary to acquire legacy exotic gear from the Tower kiosk. Players can earn a new cipher by completing strikes and winning crucible or gambit matches. Gain bonus points for playing with clan mates or finishing more challenging activities.

Xur continues to sell even more gear outside his usual content. In addition to his normal exotic gear, Xur now has Legendary Weapons and Armor for sale in exchange for Legendary Shards and Glimmer.

Exotic Armor

Transversive Steps - Warlock leg armor

The Transversive Steps come with the intrinsic perk called Strange Protractor which increases sprint speed and automatically reloads the currently equipped weapon after a short time sprinting.

Naturally, these are a universally great option, not only because it is subclass neutral, but in PvP players are typically running around maps, which means they can really take advantage of this perk. Not having to take the few seconds to reload a weapon can sometimes mean the different between winning a gunfight or respawning. Warlocks are the big winners this week as this item has a 65 overall stat line and is fairly balanced overall outside of Intelligence.

Arc Enhanced. Stat Values:

Mobility +18 Resilience +2 Recovery +10 Discipline +17 Intellect +13 Strength +2

Raiju’s Harness - Hunter chest armor

The rarely seen Raiju’s Harness is in stock this weekend with Xur. Its exotic ability is known as Mobius Conduit which doesn’t consume super energy when guarding with the Arc Staff and also allows Hunters to terminate the super early to save energy.

The exotic itself seems to be lower on the tier list and while it’s solid, there are still better options at the moment for Hunters. Also complicating things is the fact that this exotic item comes in with the lowest stat roll this week at a 61 overall, with a disappointing Mobility value at 2.

Arc Enhanced. Stat Values:

Mobility +4 Resilience +22 Recovery +2 Discipline +8 Intellect +19 Strength +6

Armamentarium - Titan chest armor

The Armamentarium, for better or worse, is back in stock at Xur for Titan players. Its exotic perk And Another Thing gives players one additional grenade charge. Unlike other exotics, this armor is easy to pair with any subclass, though it does shine brighter with specific ones.

A popular tactic with this item is to run suppressor grenades which will grant players double the power to take supers away from their enemies. It may not be exciting or flashy compared to some other exotics in the game, but its extremely valuable to have two grenades in most situations. While the stats total is decent at a 62 overall, the main problem is that it favors mobility, which doesn’t help Titan players all that much, especially with a focus on grenades. With really low Resilience and Recovery, this is a solid skip this week, unless players want to pick it up to knock off this item from their exotic checklist.

Arc Enhanced. Stat Values:

Mobility +22 Resilience +4 Recovery +3 Discipline +18 Intellect +9 Strength +6

Exotic Weapon

Pulse Rifles remain at the top of the weapon class food chain this season, even though a slight nerf appears to be incoming soon. However, Vigilance Wing is a solid pickup this week with its intrinsic perk called Hard Truths which gives the weapon a five shot burst instead of the typical three. In addition, the player using the weapon gains instant health regeneration and increased movement speed when a nearby ally is killed due to the trait Last Stand.

The five shot burst along with the fact that pulse rifles are still a very strong weapon type in Destiny 2 makes this a solid weapon to pick up for those who don’t yet have one.

Hawkmoon and Dead Man’s Tale Rolls

Since Season 16 removed the Presage and Harbinger exotic missions, Xur is also selling both Hawkmoon and Dead Man’s Tale with randomized rolls. Players should visit him each weekend as he’ll be carrying different rolls.
