When Destiny 2 began having seasons, developer Bungie promised that gear that cycled out of the game would eventually make its way back in the future, but Bungie did not detail exactly how that would happen. Some of the gear from past seasons has been added to the general world drop loot pool, so it seemed possible that exotics would also join the exotic loot pool, dropping from any of the normal exotic loot sources.

But in the current Season of Arrivals, exotic weapons from past seasons are back; but, getting them is more involved than just playing the RNG game with the game’s exotic loot pool. These returning exotics are easy to find but cost a hefty price.
Players can find returning exotic weapons Leviathan’s Breath, Eriana’s Vow, Bastion, Symmetry, and Devil’s Ruin at Master Rahool in the Tower. This will make it so players won’t have to hunt down these exotics in the wild, but the cost to purchase them is quite steep. Each exotic costs 100,000 Glimmer, 200 of a specific destination material that varies depending on the exotic, 3 Enhancement Prisms, and 1 Exotic Cipher, a new currency to Destiny 2.
The Exotic Cipher may prove to be the rarest currency of all. The only known source of an Exotic Cipher is by reaching rank 55 on the season pass. It is possible that this currency could also drop from somewhere else in the game, but players have yet to discover it. There is also a theory that Xur may offer Exotic Ciphers for purchase because the item can also be used at Xur.
Having these exotics available at the Cryptarch is a great resource for players who may have missed these exotics over the course of the past year. Eriana’s Vow is particularly powerful and useful in endgame content where Champions can be found due to its intrinsic Anti-Barrier rounds. Bastion is also a favorite among some players, proving useful in both PvE and PvP.
These do not account for all exotics over the past year’s seasons and only account for Season 8’s and 9’s seasonal exotics, but it seems likely that the Cryptarch could continue to be the source of old exotics that could be cycled in and out per season. These returning exotics being available from Rahool was a bit of a surprise in Season of Arrivals, so it is not entirely clear exactly how Bungie plans to use this moving forward in future seasons.
Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
