The Symmetry Catalyst is highly recommended for players who want to use this weapon consistently. It goes a long way to expanding its DPS potential and makes micromanagement just a little more bearable.
Updated on April 8, 2022, by Anastasia Maillot: Scout rifles are part of the bread and butter of Destiny 2, but sadly, Symmetry isn’t a weapon that will come to mind for a lot of players when considering some of the best scout rifles in the game. This hasn’t changed at all with season 16 and the release of The Witch Queen expansion. The Symmetry scout rifle remains a weak option, better suited for players who enjoy collecting every weapon in the game. For those players, this guide has been updated with information on how to get the Symmetry scout rifle in season 16, some additional information on how to get its catalyst, as well as tips on grinding for the catalyst’s upgrade in Destiny 2.
How To Get The Symmetry Scout Rifle In Season 16
Symmetry was introduced in the game during the Shadowkeep era of Destiny 2 content. At the time, players could get it from Master Rahool, but nowadays, the Exotic scout rifle is available for purchase only through the Monuments to Lost Lights Exotic kiosk, which players can find at the Tower.
Navigate over to the Shadowkeep Exotics section in the kiosk. In order to buy Symmetry, players will need to have the following resources (which can mostly be bought from Master Rahool):
1 Exotic Cipher 100,000 Glimmer 150 Baryon Bough 1 Ascendant Shard
What The Symmetry Catalyst Does
The Symmetry Catalyst comes with the perk Electric Styx. Electric Styx introduces a single benefit to the Scout Rifle.
The maximum number of Dynamic Charges is increased by five.
Now the player will be able to stack up to 20 Dynamic Charges. This means even more of a damage increase for greater DPS potential. It will also reload the weapon fully when triggered at 20. The Symmetry Catalyst is highly recommended due to these reasons even if it is a little tricky to track down.
How To Find The Symmetry Catalyst
To get the Symmetry Catalyst the player will need to complete the somewhat grindy quest Symmetry Remastered. Players can receive it from Banshee-44 after they’ve purchased Symmetry from the Exotic kiosk. While the quest is technically a three-part questline there is really only one objective apart from reporting to Banshee-44 at the beginning and end.

The main objective is to gain 400 points by completing any of the following activities:
Gambit matches Crucible matches Strikes Nightfalls
Any activity will earn the player a single point. Essentially, the player needs to complete 400 activities. It doesn’t have to be any particular, 400 Strikes or 200 Crucible matches and 200 Gambit matches will get the job done. So the player should pursue whichever they want. The nice thing about these activities is that most of them feature Pinnacle rewards for each week, so players will be most likely complete them anyway in order to reach maximum light level.
Upgrading The Symmetry Catalyst
Once players have the catalyst, they’ll need to upgrade it to benefit from its unique effects. The Symmetry Catalyst is upgraded by killing 700 enemies using Symmetry. The damage can technically come from any source, but the final blow must be dealt with Symmetry. It also doesn’t matter if it’s a result of traditional firing or the Arc Seekers, either will count.
The other thing to keep in mind is that these 700 kills can be obtained retroactively. If the player gained any kills during the 400 activities with the Symmetry they’ll apply to the 700 kills for the upgrade. It’s strongly recommended to use this weapon during these activities to cut down on grind time.
Tips For Getting The Symmetry Catalyst
The fastest way to get 400 activity completions would be to win Crucible matches. The fastest would likely be:
Elimination Clash Rumble
These game modes typically last a few minutes with a solid team. Other modes like Survival or Countdown will take longer. A good secondary option is short Strikes like Lake of Shadows which can also be done in a few minutes. Players can even opt for higher difficulty strikes if they feel confident enough, and farm for good loot at the same time while completing activities.

Another approach is to take this time to grind for other Catalysts. For instance, the player can grind Strikes to get the Prospector Catalyst. Perhaps the most efficient way to go is to run Crucible matches for time reasons and hunt for Crucible-specific Catalysts like the Black Talon Catalyst.
Is The Symmetry Catalyst Worth It?
While scout rifles aren’t in a terrible position, it’s hard to see Symmetry being particularly useful this season because of the sheer power that Void Exotics and Void weapons have. Being an Exotic Arc weapon, Symmetry is in a weird spot where it will likely only benefit from having a meta surrounding scout rifles, as well as Arc weapons.
Even then, there are better choices out there for powerful Arc weapons, like the Riskrunner, which provides much greater utility than this scout rifle. As of season 16, getting this weapon and its catalyst would be more of a grind to complete a collection rather than getting a must-have gun that every player needs, as Symmetry is far from being that powerful and important in the meta.
However, to its defense, with an Arc 3.0 rework on the horizon, it could be potentially useful in the future among other Arc weapons, and players who enjoy niche builds and weapons will likely find some use for Symmetry as well.
Destiny 2: The Witch Queen is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
