But who or what is/are the worthy? Where could Destiny 2 be headed next? And how might that lead into Season 11? While Destiny 2 is obviously playing its cards close to its chest right now before any official reveal or details about what is coming in Season 10, the trajectory of the narrative so far can be extrapolated as to what story and activities players might experience next season.

The Worthy

There are two prevailing theories about “the Worthy” that is referred to in the name of Season 10. The first is that it refers to the Guardians who are able to prove themselves worthy in Trials of Osiris, which is assumed to be coming back next season. In the lore connected to the original Trials of Osiris in Destiny 1, Trials of Osiris was a method by which Osiris was trying to find the most worthy of Guardians to fight the Darkness. It is possible that lore may return in Destiny 2, especially with the renewed focus on the Darkness and the pyramid ships. That could all be leading to the culmination of the narrative that began in the Shadowkeep expansion once players reach Season 11, which Bungie has said “will be like no other time in Destiny.”

The second theory about who the worthy is may be is connected to the new cutscene that was added to the game recently featuring Osiris confronting Rasputin, the Warmind on Mars. Rasputin has always been a mysterious character, at times being considered an enemy of the Guardians and at other times a help. In the cutscene, Osiris questions Rasputin’s loyalty, and as the theory goes, the narrative will be involved with Rasputin having to prove itself worthy to be trusted as an ally of the Last City.

PvE Content

Bungie dispelled rumors that Season 10 will only focus on PvP content, saying that “a new PvE challenge” will come later in the season. While that will be good news for players who enjoy PvE content, the language of it being called a “challenge” instead of an “activity” has players questioning if this PvE content will be new or recycled content. Bungie usually uses the word “activity” to describe seasonal PvE content such as the Menagerie, Vex Offensive, and the Sundial.

It’s possible that this challenge could be something similar to the Empyrean Foundation event currently going on in Destiny 2, where players would need to interact with existing PvE content in a new way. Or others are theorizing that because of the suspected involvement of Rasputin as a major narrative beat of this next season that Bungie could possibly be getting ready to refresh Escalation Protocol in some way. Fans will need to wait for more details, but Bungie has confirmed this late-season PvE content.

Trials of Osiris

As mentioned, Trials of Osiris is expected to be coming back, with the Empyrean Foundation serving as the in-game impetus for the re-opening of the Lighthouse and Trials coming back as a weekly event. While Bungie has been mum on the topic, fans are certain it will be coming back based on a string of leaks and data-mined information.

With that in mind, players should expect a renewed focus on PvP as many will surely be jumping into the mode to compete. While it is unknown if Destiny 2 will add any additional PvP content in Season 10 or just stick to Trials as its focus this season, there are a ton of nerfs and sandbox changes that should shake up the current meta.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
