Void 3.0 is only the first of the three upcoming ability reworks for Destiny 2, however. Bungie had previously confirmed that Arc 3.0 would be coming in Season 17, with Solar 3.0 almost certainly bound to launch alongside Season 18, but now it’s been revealed that there’s a cheeky preview of Arc 3.0 already available in the game.

One of Bungie’s lead Sandbox gameplay developers, Kevin Yanes, has taken to Twitter to assert his previous statement that Season of the Risen Synaptic Spear Artifact is a preview of Arc 3.0. According to Yanes, speed and mobility will be absolutely crucial for Arc subclasses, and Arc-loving Guardians can already take part in Season 16’s Psy-Op Battlegrounds activity to see what to expect out of the game in that respect.
When facing off against Hive Lightbearers in their mindscape, Guardians also need to deal with the Lightbearers’ mental projection of Savathun herself. The Synaptic Spear, one of the highlights of Destiny 2 Season 16, comes into play here, as player Guardians can pick it up and use it to deal massive damage to Savathun quickly and easily. Yanes specifically references the fact that Spear also allows guardians to double-blink across the battlefield, pull off huge jumps, and slide ahead at an increased speed.
Whereas Destiny 2’s Void 3.0 changes focused primarily on enemy suppression and opening up high-powered foes to increased damage, Arc 3.0 will deliver greatly increased attack speed (presumably in melee combat), increased player mobility, and the option to chain lightning attacks with one another. Solar 3.0 is vaguer in this respect, but Bungie confirmed that players ought to expect increased burn damage and healing capabilities.
That being said, Yates also confirmed that players shouldn’t expect their Arc 3.0 abilities to be quite as potent as the Synaptic Spear is. Instead, this seems to be a mechanical representation of the sort of fantasy Bungie will be going for with Arc 3.0 in general. If the Hunters’ Moebius Quiver in Destiny 2 Season 16 is anything to go by, however, even classes that the community considers underwhelming at first might be considerably more powerful than anyone expected.
Destiny 2: Witch Queen is now available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
