In an interview posted to the Chinese website GameCores, Destiny 2’s Production Director Justin Truman spoke on the direction Bungie is heading with Beyond Light, and where the series is going in the long run. He speaks about Eramis, the Fallen leader who is the main villain for Beyond Light, and how she gains Darkness powers to try to take down the Guardians, as well as what is next for Season of Arrivals and the future expansions of the game. A major point Truman made was the fact that the upcoming three expansions - Beyond Light, The Witch Queen, and Lightfall - will act as a trilogy, and how the story of Destiny 2 has lead to what fans will see this November.

Truman also talks about the new Stasis abilities coming with Beyond Light. He explains how Bungie’s goal with Stasis is to prioritize “battlefield control” over “pure DPS,” which would be an interesting shift for the gameplay loop of Destiny. In addition to this, he speaks about the ongoing Season of Arrivals, and how there are “a few more surprises to come,” which is a huge relief for fans after Bungie delayed Beyond Light to November and the calendar for the rest of the season looked fairly dry.

It is no surprise to fans that Beyond Light is aiming to try to change the way players engage in combat in Destiny 2. Since Forsaken added new supers to the game, there has been little in the way of new gameplay elements introduced into the game, aside from the introduction of Champions in Shadowkeep last Fall. Players have been anxious to hear more about what they will face in the coming years, including the long-awaited showdown with Savathun, who has been lingering in the background for years.

Bungie is set to announce more about Beyond Light in the weeks and months to come, and with the recent announcement of Destiny 2 coming to the Xbox Game Pass in September, there is much to look forward to leading up to November. Hopefully, Destiny 2 can deliver some exciting new material after the disastrous Season of the Worthy, and bring fans the smash-hit story they have been after since the launch of the series so many years ago.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions in development.
