However, Destiny 2 is now in the later stages of Season 16 as Bungie directs attention towards what’s coming next. While the developer certainly has some secrets it won’t be sharing in advance, the last few weekly updates have started to pull the curtain back on season 17 a bit. Solar and Arc subclasses will be getting a similar overhaul in the next couple of seasons, weapon crafting at The Relic is going to be getting easier, and even Lord Saladin is going to see an overhaul to earning rewards similar to current vendors at the Tower. In the most recent blog post, Bungie continued to reveal new sandbox change details for Season 17.

In this week’s expansive blog post, Destiny 2 community manager Dylan “dmg_04” Gafner revealed a ton of planned changes coming to the gameplay sandbox with the help of Staff Designer Chris Proctor. Over the years, Destiny 2 has added plenty of mobility options for players, especially for getting around in the air or getting the drop on unsuspecting enemies below. In addition to a Warlock’s Icarus Dash or even Titan Skating, many players found value in applying an Icarus Grip mod, which improves accuracy by a substantial margin while being airborne.

For season 17, Bungie is tweaking in-air accuracy, placing a greater emphasis on buildcrafting for those who want to remain deadly in the air. When attacking from the air, primary weapons will have less randomness in projectile accuracy as well as less aim assist. However, Destiny 2 players can invest in a new weapon statistic called Airborne Effectiveness that determines how well the weapon does in air. This stat will be hidden in Season 17 similar to aim assist and recoil direction, though some subclass and exotic armor perks can improve the value like Peregrine Greaves, Sealed Ahamkara Grasps, and more. The higher the value, the more accurate and aim assisted the weapon will be, though players will have to build their loadout around this as it’s not given for free anymore.

This major change was joined by plenty of additional information on upcoming sandbox-style changes Bungie has planned for Season 17. Glaives are getting updated to receive a 25% boost to melee damage in PvE as well as the weapon’s shield, draining 30% slower. Special ammo will become harder to find in the Crucible, as Bungie is trying to reduce the one-shot kill frequency and instead push players more towards primary weapons. In addition, Bungie has tweaked most weapon types for season 17, including a number of underused exotics that received buffs in the PvE space.

Destiny 2 is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
