If Bungie ever decided to create a spin-off Destiny game that crossed over into another genre, it could look at the Super Mario series for inspiration. The Nintendo icon appears in a whole host of different games and genres including Mario Kart, Mario Tennis, and Mario Party.

Twitter user @EntityPsd recently posted a concept for a Destiny 2 fighting game, with ideas for each character’s abilities, as well as an animated character selection screen, with the short video showing Osiris set to take on Oryx.

Although this isn’t an official project by Bungie, it looks awesome, and it is very interesting to think about what could be if the game was put into production. Many of the most popular characters from Destiny 2 are present in the concept, including Cayde, Luxe Hunter, Osiris, Tempest, Riven, and Wyvern, making this a star-studded roster that would be sure to tick the boxes for any Destiny fan. Each of the characters features their own unique ability, such as Mithrax being able to use a gauntlet to rip holes in the vex network to summon junk, and Tempest who can use arc chains to facilitate heavy combos.

With the characters being able to use weapons and abilities, it would be logical to imagine a Destiny fighting game to be similar to games such as Bandai Namco’s SoulCalibur, which sees players face off in a 3D arena while using weapons, with the series set in a fantasy version of the 16th and 17th centuries. It would make sense for a Destiny fighting game to be a sci-fi version of the SoulCalibur series, and it could work incredibly well.

With the Destiny 2 series ever-evolving with new expansions, as well as Bungie furthering the story and lore of the Destiny series with other forms of media including comics, there are plenty of options to choose from when it comes to crafting the game’s story, whether Bungie would want to use this game as a prequel to the series, or even tell a story within the current timeline. It is a shame that this is just a concept because this is a title that deserves to be put into official production. But, with the attention the Tweets have gotten, as well as the positive response, perhaps that will be enough for Bungie to at least take note and start thinking about future spin-off games.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Google Stadia, with the upcoming The Witch Queen expansion set to launch on February 22, 2022.
