Recent information has also given players new insights into upcoming Destiny 2 features like weapon crafting, which seemingly intends to be a big aspect going forward. Taking place on Mars at a place called the Enclave, players will be able to utilize patterns found through playing to begin crafting weapons. Over time and through the use of required materials, players will be able to customize their crafted weapons, though before they get to that point, they’ll first need to make a Glaive.

Originally introduced during the initial Witch Queen announcement event, the Glaive is essentially both a melee and ranged weapon. This newest weapon type acts as a way to slice through enemies in first person, though players can also use it as a shield and a projectile as well. The latest ViDoc discusses the new weapon, revealing that it’s been in development for well over a year and initially was overly strong. However, these play tests ultimately helped the team refine and improve the experience to what players will see on launch day.

Unlike swords, which pull the camera back into third person due to the character’s wide arching swings, Bungie purposely left the player in first person for the Glaive. As a polearm style weapon, it essentially thrusts forward, striking ahead, holding a shield, or launching a projectile in the direction its facing. George Kokoris, a designer on Destiny 2, including the new Glaive weapon, felt that keeping the camera in first person was very important for keeping that feeling of immediacy and impact.

Thankfully, fans will be able to find a wide variety of different glaives, each offering different stats and perks to take advantage of. No expansion would be complete without plenty of new gear to chase, which Bungie has also recently highlighted. Each subclass is getting two new exotic armor pieces to chase including the unique looking Lorely Splendor helmet for Titans. Bungie has also teased plenty of new Legendary and exotic weapons as well, including the Osteo Striga SMG, which can also be customized by the player.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
