Bungie has communicated about some of those problems, and what the developer plans to do to solve them. In the weekly blog update, Bungie’s Senior Design Lead Tyson Green addressed the problem with giving players the ability to delete shaders en masse:

Green went on to say it would not be hard to make a button combination (something like hold a trigger while also hitting the delete button), but the problem still remains with how the game would handle giving the rewards upon dismantle as mentioned above.

In addition to players’ frustrations with shaders, Green also mentioned that the developer is looking at how to re-integrate Destiny 1’s shader mechanics. However, Bungie has to figure out how to marry the two systems. A straight copy of Destiny 1’s shader system, while it would require having to unlock a shader just once to then be applied and removed as often as desired, it would apply it to every piece of armor. Bungie says it is trying to find a way to still allow each gear piece to be individually shaded.

Lastly, Bungie is looking to take shaders back to a similar system where they would not be as limited, with possible solutions being a shader collection or being able to freely pick up an unlimited number of copies of shaders.

It’s encouraging to hear Bungie’s plans for the future, but most fans would like to see these changes already active in the game. Expecting that may be unrealistic but no timetable was given as to when a solution to these shader problems may be remedied.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
