In addition to new weapons like the Halo-inspired Forerunner sidearm, Bungie added a new dungeon called the Grasp of Avarice as well as a free 6 player activity known as Dares of Eternity. With Xur acting as a gameshow host, players compete in multiple rounds against different enemy factions, obstacle courses, and then a final boss battle. Naturally, players are rewarded with loot for their effort including weapons, Strange coins, and Treasure Keys.

However, Dares of Eternity also features some unique elements, from a segment where players need to guess the final encounter, to a special bonus lightning round offering even more loot. There’s been tons of questions with how to spawn this lightning round, but thankfully, the answer is now confirmed. Here’s how Destiny 2 players can spawn the special Ogre boss fight in the Lightning Round.
Spawning The Lightning Round
A hot topic in the Destiny 2 community is how to spawn the Lightning Round. Fans have had plenty of theories regarding the method, from speed running the event, to taking out enemies in a very specific way. Thankfully, Bungie’s senior design lead Tom Farnsworth has put the entire conversation to bed by confirming the exact steps to trigger the special round. Ultimately, it involves a lot of RNG luck.
According to Farnsworth, there’s nothing specific that players can do to see the Lightning Round. It has an equally random chance to occur at the end of a Dares of Eternity run for everyone. However, there are a few things fireteams can do to potentially raise their chances however slightly:
Teams should try and play efficiently, which has been confirmed as one way to raise the odds. Essentially, players should move as quickly as possible through the event, completing objectives in a well-organized and quick way. Teams that opt to play on the Legendary Difficulty also get a small boost to their Lightning Round chances. Keep in mind that players will not only need to be at a minimum of 1320 and be prepared for a number of modifiers to be activated like match game, more champions, and more objectives. In addition, this option does not allow for matchmaking, so players will need to use a LFG service either through the Destiny app or through social media. Finally, the biggest way to see a Lightning Round is by playing. Farnsworth mentions that the more Dares of Eternity that is played, the higher the chance at seeing one eventually.
Rewards and Special Guests
For players that are lucky enough to spawn and finish the Lightning Round inside of the set time limit, they’ll be rewarded with 3 extra chests at the end. This means more opportunity for Strange Coins to unlock more Starhorse bounties and resources, Treasure Keys for the Treasure Hoard chests, as well as weapons and armor with god roll style perks.
The final question posed to Farnsworth is how to spawn Xur’s Chosen, which is needed for a particular triumph tied to the 30th Anniversary seal. Unfortunately, Farnsworth isn’t saying, instead telling players that they’ll need to discover some things on their own.
Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
