Destiny 2’s fourth year was its best yet thanks to its seasonal content, but Beyond Light as an expansion was just alright according to fans, and the main reasons for it are that it launched with Stasis in a bad shape in the Crucible, where it dominated, and the fact that the campaign and Europa felt underwhelming. Still, Stasis is a fundamental tool in every Guardian’s kit now, and there are plenty of other things Beyond Light came with, like the Deep Stone Crypt Raid. As such, Destiny 2 Beyond Light leaving Game Pass on December 8, just a day after the release of the 30th Anniversary Pack, can suddenly be troublesome for Xbox players.

Why Destiny 2 Beyond Light Leaving Game Pass is Bad
The news that Destiny 2 Beyond Light will be leaving the Game Pass so soon after it became available is enough to make some players upset about the decision. However, it can be even worse than just that because players who relied on Beyond Light coming for free as part of the Game Pass will either have to buy the expansion or give up on its content moving forward. The problem is that not owning Beyond Light anymore comes at a hefty price, as players can no longer access the Deep Stone Crypt Raid, as well as Empire Hunt missions, the Beyond Light campaign and post-campaign, and more.
Stasis is actually one of the assets that compose the whole Beyond Light package, which means that once the expansion officially leaves Game Pass, it will leave Xbox players without the ability to wield Stasis anymore. This is something other players experienced in the past if their Game Pass subscription expired for any reason, and Stasis simply became no longer usable in Destiny 2 despite it being fully unlocked because it’s tied to owning Beyond Light. With the 30th Anniversary Pack coming with a major sandbox patch on December 7, Stasis might become even more powerful on some characters and with some builds, whereas others might end up being nerfed for the most part, like Shatterdive.
This means that the meta will be adjusting to the changes, and Xbox players won’t have the time to take everything in because Beyond Light will be gone the day after. This will leave Europa in a worse state, even, because players who don’t own the expansion will only be able to visit it and play patrol missions, giving up on things like farming Fragments and Aspects, the Glassway Strike, and Simulations as well.
Removing Beyond Light right after another Destiny 2 release is an odd choice, and it’s even weirder when players take into consideration that The Witch Queen is three months away and it too will not be part of Xbox Game Pass when it drops. Thus, Xbox Destiny 2 players will have to fork out some money to purchase the expansion if they want to keep their progress and keep on playing activities tied to Beyond Light. Ultimately, while the choice might have been more understandable if The Witch Queen came to Game Pass, this is not the case, and the removal of Beyond Light comes at the worst time for Xbox fans.
Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
